Now imagine that you have on a warm furry coat and you want to stay cool. When the weather gets hot, you pets will, have a hard time. Since we are in the business of keeping you cool, here are a few tips that will help you keep your pets comfortable.
It’s all about the time: It might be difficult to wake up early in the morning, but that is the coolest time of the day. If you can schedule to walk your dog when the sun is just coming up, you will avoid high temperature exercise. Remember that your dogs and cats do not sweat like you. In order to cool down, your furry friends have to pant. Panting is their form of sweating. They also use their paws. That means if the pavement is sun blasted, your pet can cool down. When the sun is out, walk your dog on the grass whenever possible. Since they have to pant to cool down, your pets will struggle when the humidity is high. That is when it will be a good idea to have them inside.
Take to the Shade: If your yard is lacking trees, it’s time to take a trip to the garden center. Your pets might begin to feel cooped up indoors and you want to provide them with a backyard that both of you can enjoy. Shade trees provide a nice area for your pets to cool down when they want to be outside. In fact, the temperature difference under a tree can be up to 36 degrees cooler than if you were standing in full sunlight. Protect your pets with good trees and vegetation.
Add water: Whether you are going on a walk or allowing your pets to explore your yard, make certain you provide them with plenty of water. For an added treat, you can even add in a few ice cubes to help keep their water refreshing. Make certain you check their water levels often, because as the temperature climbs, your pets will drink more water to keep themselves cool. If you have a dog that loves water, you can place a kiddy pool in your yard. Your dogs will go crazy splashing around and cooling down. You will be provided with hours of entertainment. If you notice excessive panting or your pets are acting disoriented, get them out of the heat immediately. Use ice pack around their necks to cool them down. If you notice that your pets are not improving, take them to your veterinarian.
